The other day, drunk off the freedom of a weekend away, I turned to The Husband and said the equivalent of “Honey, let’s do something incredibly stupid.”
“Wonderful,” he said. “Can it be mind-bogglingly expensive as well?”
“But, of course!” I replied without hesitation. “How could it not be?”
And we laughed together in an obnoxious throaty way.
“Let us not forget back-breaking.” I noted.
The Husband raised a questioning eyebrow. “Whatever do you mean?”
“Oh, you know how I do love combining hard labor with great expense.” I said while feeding dollar bills into a paper shredder. “Eliminating any possibly GOOD reason for doing something is the only way you can ensure that what you’re doing is REALLY stupid.”
The Husband smiled. “You aren’t a clever one, are you?”
“I like to think not.”
The problem is, I have a horrible, incurable case of the icandothats. No matter what the task, regardless of how much training it might normally require, and especially ignoring the need for specialized equipment, I can’t help but look at things and say to myself, “I can do that.” These, of course, tend to be the proverbial famous last words that you’d expect them to be and thus, more often than not, The Husband and I find ourselves waist deep in the metaphoric festering swamp muck of yet another overly complicated project.
A while back, The
Husband and I built a giant padded headboard for our bed and since that fateful
forgotten how horrible an experience that was been daydreaming
about finishing it off with a footboard and side rails. Surely, it couldn’t be too difficult or time
consuming. Also, rabid wolverines love
to cuddle. As you can imagine, it is
both difficult and time consuming and your typical rabid wolverine is
standoffish at best, so things aren’t going well. However, if we can manage to stay up and finish it tonight after
getting so little sleep last night fixing my teeny-tiny, god-awful,
soul-crushing, itty-bitty little mistake in the upholstery (it involved
scissors and lots and lots of sobbing), then I will post the pictures
tonight. If not, well, we’ll be having
a beautifully upholstered bonfire this evening and I’ll post those pictures
tomorrow. Either way, it’s sure to be
